Pokmon Go: How to Get Umbreon

When it comes to learning how to get Umbreon in Pokémon Go, there are several different methods you can use. First, you need to make sure you have an Eevee ready to evolve. The rest will revolve around chance, the game's Buddy mechanic and a nickname trick that can be used to try to force an evolution.

With all of the recent Pokémon Go events, like the Pokémon Go World Championship, there's good sense in building out a formidable team. You want to have the strongest Pokémon you can find on your side if you want to crush the competition. Umbreon is a good choice if you're having trouble finding a monster that ticks all the boxes you're looking to fill.

The Dark-type Pokémon is a boon to have on your side, especially since it's resistant to Ghost, Dark and Psychic moves. It's one out of eight possible evolutions you can opt for when evolving your Eevee, and one of the more powerful ones, as well. Plus, that striking dark coat with gold accents looks fantastic, doesn't it?

If you're ready to level up your Eevee into a powerhouse of your choosing, here's everything you need to know about getting that coveted Umbreon.

How to get Umbreon in Pokémon Go

There are a couple of different ways you can go about getting Umbreon in Pokémon Go. Obviously, you'll need an Eevee you don't mind saying goodbye to. Make sure you have multiple if you're partial to the monster and don't want to go through the trouble of catching another.

Buddy System

In the core Pokémon titles, getting an Umbreon from an Eevee has always revolved around meeting a certain friendship level with your Eevee, then leveling it up at night. There's a similar method in Pokémon Go, though it's referred to as the Buddy mechanics.

You won't need to collect Hearts to evolve Eevee into Umbreon. All you need to do is walk 10 kilometers with Eevee at your side, then get two Candies. When you're ready, evolve Eevee at night. The result will be an Umbreon, but if you want to make sure that's what you're getting, just glance at Eevee's silhouette when going to evolve it. It should reflect Umbreon.

Set a Nickname

If you don't want to walk with Eevee at your side and use the Buddy mechanic, there's still another way. Set your Eevee's nickname to the name "Tamao" and then use the option to evolve it. Doing this ensures you can guarantee a certain form, once per Eeeveelution. When you evolve Eevee, you will receive an Umbreon. Then, go back and change your Umbreon's name back to whatever you'd like it to be.

Pokémon Go is now available for free on iOS and Android devices.
