Anytime a pet parent introduces a new animal to the family, there is bound to be some jealous feelings from the ones who already live there.
One woman's "soul dog" felt that the attention had shifted from him to the new puppy. His reaction in the November 9 TikTok video posted to TikTok account @hunterkenz is leaving both viewers and the owner herself in tears.
Hunter Kenzie has had Felix, the 8-year-old boxer, Weimaraner, and Dalmatian mix, since he was only a few months old. It was love at first sight between these two. Kenzie told Newsweek that he came right up to her and laid in her lap. She knew instantly that was her dog.
From helping her through her divorce, moving across the country, finding and healing herself again, Felix has been with Kenzie through life's rollercoaster ride.
And on November 8, Kenzie added more fur to the family with the addition of Dolly, a Bernese mountain dog puppy.
Dolly is obsessed with Felix, but in typical fashion, the latter has acted like an annoyed older brother, the owner said. In the clip, users can see Felix completely over it. He headed out when he wasn't getting any of the attention.
Although attention may have shifted a little since Dolly's arrival, the love for him hasn't diminished. Kenzie can't express enough how much her soul dog has meant to her. She is cherishing every last moment together as, unfortunately, his time is nearing an end.
Felix was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 18 months, Kenzie said. Epilepsy is a neurologic disorder that affects the brain and causes dogs to have recurring seizures. PetMD estimates it affects about 0.75 percent of canines.
"In the last eight weeks, his health has drastically gone downhill. Talking to both his doctors, he is having multiple seizures a day, not eating as much, his mobility is suffering, and his back legs will give out randomly," Kenzie said.
As his quality of life is no longer the best, sad news came the day after getting Dolly that Felix's time had an end date. In the time left together, Kenzie said she will spoil him, love him, and give him all the steak dinners in the world.
Dolly has helped Kenzie during this heartbreaking time, even though she is still a puppy. Kenzie might randomly burst into tears about the news, but then Dolly will come along doing something cute or wanting to cuddle, immediately warming her heart right up.
Plus, Dolly is trying oh-so-hard to befriend the cat Junie. Kenzie believes the puppy knows what is coming and wants to make sure Junie, who adores Felix, is going to be fine when that heartbreaking day comes.
"(Felix) has brought me to the happiness I have now, and I think that is what he was waiting for, to make sure I was safe and happy before he was able to leave me," said Kenzie.
Until that final day comes, she'll enjoy watching Felix and Dolly together on walks, rolling in the grass, and playing together.
